Nomura Real Estate acquires Vietnamese office tower

Nomura Real Estate Development has acquired Zen Plaza, an office complex in HCMC, Vietnam for an undisclosed sum. This is the second commercial real estate asset Nomura has acquired in HCMC. Last year, it purchased 24 per cent stake in Sun Wah Tower, also located in the CBD area, as its first office project in the Asia-Pacific.

Sharp to build factory in Vietnam

Japanese electronics giant Sharp has announced that it will build a new factory in Vietnam after scrapping a plan to produce automotive liquid crystal displays for the U.S. market in China. Specifically, the factory is planned to be built in the outlying area of HCMC and is expected to be put into operation next year.

GS E&C, the engineering and construction subsidiary of South Korean conglomerate the GS Group, has been developing a noteworthy legacy in Vietnam, the Zeitgeist project in HCMC’s Nha Be district, after a number of previous construction and infrastructure projects. Optimally located on Nguyen Huu Tho with access to a number of bridges, canals, and infrastructure, once completed, Zeitgeist will comprise approximately 760 villas, 770 mid-end apartments, and 13,000 high-end apartments, in addition to 2,600 mixed-use buildings, including a school, hospital and cultural and administrative building on a total of 349 ha.

Lotte opens third duty free store in Vietnam

The South Korea's Lotte Duty Free Company yesterday announced that it had opened a duty-free store at Noi Bai International Airport in capital city of Hanoi. With an area of over 500 square meters, the store was located inside the departure area of Noi Bai International Airport which sells perfumes, cosmetics, alcohol, cigarettes, food and many other items of 90 brands. The third duty-free store exclusively sells South Korea’s products of 21 famous brands including History of Whoo.

CPI rises 0.18 percent in July

Figures released by the General Statistics Office of Vietnam on July 29 showed that consumer price index (CPI) in July edged up by 0.18 percent compared to the previous month. In the first seven months of this year, CPI has risen by an average growth of 2.61 percent over the same period last year, the lowest seven-month growth in the last three years.

Underground commercial complex to be developed beneath September 23 Park

September 23 Park in downtown HCMC will be rebuilt and expanded to cover 11 hectares of land, with a four-floor underground commercial complex. Hoang Tung, deputy director of the department, said that the underground complex is expected to comprise a commercial center, an entertainment area, a parking lot and a bus station.

Fairfield by Marriott signs first two contracts in Vietnam

Today at Marriot Hanoi Hotel, Times Garden Vietnam and Marriot International signed a contract to manage Fairfield by Marriott Vinh Yen and Fairfield by Marriott Halong Bay. With this signing, the Fairfield by Marriott brand aspires to continue to develop markets in the Asia-Pacific, particularly in northern Vietnam.

The legal procedures and construction of these two hotels will be completed as soon as possible to ensure the scheduled opening in 2022.

Australia’s Oporto to open 24 stores in Vietnam

Restaurant chain Oporto has launched in Vietnam under local franchisee Ben Thanh Group, with plans to open 24 restaurants across the territory in the next 10 years. The brand’s CEO Craig Tozer indicated the Vietnamese expansion provides a further gateway to a new market of potential consumers.
“Vietnam is an ideal market for Oporto with nearly 100 million people and more than 60 per cent in our core demographic of under 35,” said Tozer. “Vietnam is experiencing double-digit growth in the retail and consumer sector and GDP has steadily grown at over 6 per cent. Consumers are urbanising and have an appreciation of quality food.”

Tuy Hoa airport to serve international flights in Q4

Tuy Hoa Airport in the south-central province of Phu Yen is able to welcome international flights in the fourth quarter of this year, heard a meeting between the provincial People’s Committee and international airlines and travel agencies on August 1.

Kien Giang approves 20 projects worth total US$2 billion

Twenty projects worth combined a VND43.4 trillion (roughly US$2 billion) were granted investment licences by Kien Giang People Committee. The Mekong Delta province’s authority also signed investment co-operation agreements with 25 investors for 36 projects with total registered capital of more than VND150 trillion.
