Vietstar Airlines cleared to take to the skies

The Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority Monday granted the Aircraft Operator Certificate (AOC) to Vietstar Airlines, making it the sixth airline in Vietnam. The AOC is a certificate approved by a regulatory authority, allowing a carrier to operate aircraft for commercial purposes within a specified scope of activities. Vietstar Airlines is allowed to operate two types of aircrafts including Embraer Legacy 600, and Beechcraft King Air B300.

Philippine fast food giant Jollibee spends US$350 million to buy Coffee Bean

Jollibee will invest US$100 million for an 80 per cent stake in a Singapore venture set up with Vietnamese partners to acquire CBTL. The remaining 20 per cent stake will be owned by Jollibee’s partner in its Vietnam coffee and restaurant business. Jollibee will invest another US$250 million, which will be paid back by the holding company. “The acquisition of Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf will be Jollibee’s largest and most multinational so far with business presence in 27 countries,” Jollibee chairman Tony Tan Caktiong said in a statement, adding that the acquisition will add 14 per cent to its global system-wide sales and 26 per cent to its total store network.

US$10 billion estimated for HCMC-Can Tho express railway

The HCMC-Can Tho high-speed railway project, which is planned to be nearly 173 kilometers long and include 14 stations, will require an estimated investment of some US$10 billion. Accordingly, cargo trains will start in Binh Duong Province’s Di An Town and end in Can Tho City’s Cai Rang District, while passenger trains will begin in HCMC’s Binh Chanh District. The railway will pass through six localities: Binh Duong, HCMC, Long An, Tien Giang, Vinh Long and Can Tho.

HCMC will auction 15 'golden' land plots to attract large investors to develop the Thu Thiem New Urban Area and avoid state revenue losses. HCMC Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong Friday assigned the Management Board of Thu Thiem New Urban Area to map out 15 land plots located in Functional Areas No.3 and 4. These will serve as a basis to determine the starting price for auctioning.

Work on underground parking project in downtown HCMC to continue

The HCMC government has allowed the Dong Duong Group to continue work on the underground carpark project in the Trong Dong outdoor stage area in District 1, which had not been included in the city’s annual land use plan for this year.

City to build five hectare parking lot in Le Minh Xuan 2 Industrial Park

The Office of HCMC People’s Committee has just announced about the bus station project in Le Minh Xuan 2 Industrial Park, Binh Chanh District. The Department of Transport will cooperate with relevant agencies to study the overall area of six hectares, of which, one hectare would be used for bus station and five hectares for parking lot. The project is divided into 2 investment phases to meet parking demands in the city.

Hanoi plans road toll for downtown areas to reduce congestion

A draft plan prepared by the Hanoi administration will seek to restrict entry downtown areas via automatic toll fees. The first step, according to the plan, is to determine which streets and which areas of the city are most at risk of congestion, so that restrictions are placed on vehicles entering them.
