Matsumoto Kiyoshi Vietnam to open next year

The first Matsumoto Kiyoshi Vietnam store will open store next March, in downtown Ho Chi Minh City. 

The Japanese drugstore chain, in a joint venture with local operator Lotus Food Group, hopes to open 10 to 15 stores in the next five years and expand to hundreds of outlets beyond that. Matsumoto Kiyoshi Vietnam will feature health food, functional foods and beauty products from Japanese brands, including exclusive product lines such as Blanc White and Argelan. Apart from products originating from Japan, the store will also offer goods fromVietnam and other countries, according to a spokesperson. 

 

 


 

Construction work done, Hanoi metro gets ready to run

Construction work on Hanoi's first metro line has been completed, only safety checks remain before commercial operations can begin, its project director says. Tang Hong, director of the Cat Linh-Ha Dong Metro project, said Thursday that the construction of the railway, installment of equipment, and training of staff, have been completed and the contractor has notified the Ministry of Transport accordingly.


 

 

Vingroup exits completely from retail market

The merger of ecommerce platform Adayroi, operated by Vingroup’s retail arm VinCommerce, into the conglomerate’s ecosystem VinID and the dissolution of its electronic retail business VinPro marked Vingroup’s withdrawal from Vietnam’s retail market. The dissolution process of VinPro is scheduled to be completed by the end of this month. This move is part of Vingroup’s restructuring process, aiming to reallocate its resources to core businesses of industry and technology to compete globally, said a company executive.

 

 

 

Moody’s downgrades Vietnam outlook to negative

"The negative outlook reflects some ongoing risk of payment delays on some of the government's indirect debt obligations, in the absence of more tangible and significant measures to improve the coordination and transparency around debt management within the administration," the agency said in a statement. But Vietnam’s has kept its Ba3 rating, which is underpinned by strong growth potential and economic diversification, supporting the economy's capacity to absorb shocks, including a prolonged slowdown in global trade, it said.

 

 

 

Korea’s NPS, SK Group said to set up $860m fund to invest in Vietnam

Korea’s National Pension Service (NPS) and business juggernaut SK Group have reportedly joined forces to form a 1 trillion won ($860 million) fund to invest in Vietnam, according to Korean media reports. The pension fund and SK Group are reportedly contributing 500 billion won each to the fund. SK Group is said to have invested in the fund through SK Southeast Asia Investment, a unit set up in 2018 for its Southeast Asia foray.

 

 

 

Azerai Ke Ga Bay ready for early-2020 opening
 

 

Azerai Ke Ga Bay, a luxurious and secluded oceanfront retreat in south-central Binh Thuan province, is set to launch in early 2020 as the third property in Azerai Resorts’ growing portfolio. The 57-room resort, which will succeed Princess D’Annam Resort & Spa on the same site following a six-month renovation, is located 180km east of Ho Chi Minh City on a sweeping 5-km white sand beach on the East Sea.
 

 

 

Vietnam to extend visa waiver for visitors from key markets
 

The five-year visa waiver program for tourists from Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Norway, Belarus, Finland and Sweden, which is set to end on December 31 this year, will be extended by another three years. Besides this, Vietnam will also extend the unilateral visa exemption until June 30, 2021, for tourists from five western European countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy and Spain. Their visa-free stay cannot exceed 15 days.

As the number of foreign arrivals to Vietnam in November set a new record of 1.8 million and the upward trend is expected to continue in December, Vietnam is en route to achieve the target of welcoming 18 foreign guests by year-end.
