Two Vietnam Companies to Merge Units to Create Retail Giant

Vingroup JSC’s retail and agriculture units will merge with Masan Consumer Holdings — a subsidiary of Masan Group Corp. — to create the new corporation, according to a Vingroup statement. Vingroup’s shares in VinCommerce and VinEco will be converted into shares of the new company, in which Vingroup will be a shareholder and Masan Group will take control.

 

 


 

Amazon officially enters Vietnam

Ecommerce giant Amazon has officially named Vietnam’s conglomerate T&T Group as its strategic business partner and Saigon-Hanoi Commercial Bank (SHB) as its first finance-banking partner in Vietnam, marking its entrance into the Vietnamese market, heard attendees at a cross-border ecommerce conference. Under the deal, Amazon Global Selling, T&T Group and SHB will cooperate on training human resources for the 4.0 era and helping Vietnamese exporters to run their businesses on Amazon’s ecommerce platform through the banking system.


 

 

Largest AEON Mall opens in Hà Đông District

AEON Mall Vietnam Co Ltd on December 5 officially opened its fifth shopping and entertainment complex in Hanoi’s Ha Dong district. AEON Mall Ha Dong, is the firm’s largest facility in Vietnam and is equipped with technology-integrated services and environmentally-friendly design. Covering a total area of 150,000sq.m in Duong Noi commune, the new mall is filled with more than 200 stores selling both domestic and international products.

Consumption is on the rise in Vietnam, and Fast Retailing believes the nation can help drive regional growth. The casual clothing chain store operator is also counting on Vietnam to become a manufacturing hub and relieve some pressure building up due to the prolonged U.S.-China trade war. The three-story store, which stands opposite those of rival fast-fashion brands H&M and Zara, is one of Uniqlo's largest in Southeast Asia, with a gross floor area of 3,107 sq. meters

 

 

 

Construction of four expressways likely to be advanced

The transport ministry is seeking to advance the construction of four expressways, including two in the Mekong Delta. In a plan on developing the expressway network it has submitted to the government for approval, construction of the four, originally scheduled for after 2030, has been brought forward to before 2030. They are the Tra Linh-Dong Dang, Soc Trang-Can Tho-Chau Doc, Ninh Binh-Hai Phong-Quang Ninh, and Ha Tien-Rach Gia-Ca Mau expressways.

 

 

 

New terminal proposed for Tan Son Nhat airport
 

Airport operator ACV has proposed a third terminal for Saigon's Tan Son Nhat International Airport at a cost of VND10.99 trillion (US$475 million). The state-run Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) will use its own fund for the three-year project, which will increase the airport capacity by 20 million passengers annually, the Ministry of Planning and Investment said in a recent report to the government. The terminal will cover 100,000 square meters, and ACV will build more aircraft aprons, a two-lane overhead path, a five-lane viaduct in front of the terminal and a multi-storey car park.

 

 

 

Saigon luxury apartment prices up 40 pct in 3 years
 

Q4 luxury apartment prices in Saigon have surged 40 percent from 2017 due to limited supply, according to real estate service firm CBRE. Vo Huynh Tuan Kiet, marketing head of CBRE’s housing projects division, said at a recent forum that the reason for the price surge is dwindling land supply in central business districts, leading to higher investment costs in luxury projects. Limited supply of luxury apartments combined with rising material costs have pushed prices of this segment by 10-13 percent annually in the last three years. This growth rate is twice that of the middle and low segments, he added.


 

 

 

 
Gov’t okays plan to build two golf courses

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has approved the investment in two golf courses worth over VND1 trillion in Quang Nam and Lao Cai provinces. According to the decision, Vinpearl Joint Stock Company is to act as the investor for Vinpearl Quang Nam golf course in the central province of Quang Nam. The project is set to cover 70.35 hectares of land in Thanh Binh District. The projected 18-hole golf course, built with an investment of VND500 billion, is expected to operate for 50 years, VnEconomy news site reported. The Lao Cai golf course project developed by Fansipan Sapa Company is scheduled to locate in Ban Qua Commune, Bat Xat District in the northern upland province of Lao Cai, sprawling an area of 80 hectares. The golf course, which requires a total investment of VND552 billion, will have 18 holes and operate for 70 years.

 

 

 
Thành Thành Công Investment to buy 16 million shares of Sài Gòn Thương Tín Real Estate

Thành Thành Công Investment JSC is to buy more than 16 million shares of Sài Gòn Thương Tín Real Estate JSC (SCR), equivalent to 4.7 per cent of the company’s outstanding shares. The transaction is scheduled from December 5 to December 31. Thành Thành Công said the company is expected to spend VNĐ100 billion (US$4.3 million) for the acquisition

 

 

 
Vietnam mulls $194 mln expressway in Mekong Delta province

Vietnam is considering a VND4.5 trillion (US$194.5 million) expressway in Dong Thap Province that will connect with other Mekong Delta localities. The four-lane, 17-meter wide expressway, running 26 kilometers southwest from Thap Muoi District till Cao Lanh Bridge, will allow speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour, according to the Ministry of Transport. It will be a part of the 130 kilometer expressway that connects Dong Thap with Can Tho City and Kien Giang Province.
